During the time of natural calamities like earthquake, flood, fire, vehicular accident etc., the

management in three sequences made for rescue, relief and rehabilitation is called Disaster Management.

‘Fire Fighting’ plays a key role in disaster management. Fire is a calamity where action if not

taken immediately and carefully, there is occurrence of loss of life along with loss in monetary aspects. Keeping in view need for safety and security, fire technology sector is being upgraded. Today, fire fighting industry has turn over of Rs.1,600 crores to Rs.2,000 crores and hence the demand for trained youth is at peak in this sector.

In the countries where industrialization is at fast pace and population is growing uncontrollably, fire safety standards i.e. mechanism for prevention against fire is at backfoot. Therefore, we have now become more susceptible to the fire risk compared to previous days. Today, there is great demand for trained professionals who can work in Disaster Management and Prevention field. College of Fire Technologty (CFT) of Gujarat is the first of its kind institute in the country which conducts course of B.Sc. Fire. This institute also conductes specialized course of Fireman and Safety and Security.

Three-years B.Sc. in Fire course is recognized by Gujarat University. During this course, the students are exposed to the latest fire fighting technologies and equipments. CFT has tie-up with Lids University of U.K. Many of its students are pursuing their Master Degree course from the Lids University. This college interacts with various organizations like fire brigade stations and for practical training sessions, so as to see that students of this institute keeps updated about developments taking place in this industry and other related information. After pursuing study in this sector, job opportunities are available at organizations like ONGC, all municipal corporations, municipalities and District Panchayats, mining, refinieries, gas plant, government corporations etc.

For assessment of damages caused due to fire and accident, experts are needed. Candidates having degree in fire fighting can have job with attractive salaries with defense organizations, railway, airport, petrochemical complexes, oil companies, ONGC, Central Industrial Force etc. Handsome earning can be ensured by engaging oneself as Fire Surveyor or Fire consultancy, liaison officer of petroleum companies, manufacturing of fire fighting equipments etc.
